After 20 years in the business, I thought I’d seen everything. But when I recently went to visit a home in Thornhill for a quotation, I quickly realized that I hadn’t. You’ll see what I mean when you see the pictures below.
The customer told me that they were having a problem with overflowing and that the water would shoot over the top of his rain gutters. So I went up my ladder and was amazed at what I saw. The eavestroughs had a black 4″ underground perforated plastic pipe inserted into it. No wonder they overflowed!
He went on to explain that his gardener at the time suggested he do this to prevent leaves and debris from clogging his eavestroughing. It cost him a couple of hundred dollars, and had been putting up with this for over 4 years! I explained to him that this type of pipe was for underground landscaping, and at best, this black piping wasn’t doing any good on his roof.
So we removed all of the existing gutters and installed brand new 5″ seamless eavestroughing with 3″ x 3″ downpipes so that the water would flow properly throughout. We also installed our preferred leaf guard system, the Alu-Rex M-5200, with its’ proprietary T-Rex fastening system. I guaranteed him that he wouldn’t have any overflow problems again!
